WHAT MAKES THIS STYLE SO SPECIAL?
Abstract expressions and techniques such as dynamic paint strokes (brushstroke tattoos) are still a relatively modern phenomenon in the tattoo world. Compared to the classic and traditional styles, they offer a lot of room for 'experimental' arrangements and implementations. Ideally, they perfectly fit the corresponding body shapes. They appear refreshingly impulsive, powerful and expressive.
From color realism to blackwork, abstract components can be found today in all possible, established tattoo styles. They work both alone as well as in combination with other 'concrete' motifs very nicely. Geometric shapes (see ornamental) and abstract pattern designs, are also commonly used as stylistic devices in this regard.
Basically, pretty much any figurative motif can be abstracted and broken down to an almost symbolic character. From this point of view, traditional art forms (see tribal) with their quite clear, geometric and linear structures are also based on this principle. An abstract aesthetic also lies, for example, in calligraphic letters (see lettering), whose effect can fascinate us even if we are unable to decipher or read them.
